Old Amsterdam receives Superior Taste Award

In Brussels, on Thursday 28 May 2009, the Dutch cheese brand Old Amsterdam was awarded the prestigious Superior Taste Award. This international quality award is issued by the International Taste & Quality Institute (ITQI) and is the Michelin star of the food & beverage industry. Old Amsterdam is the only Dutch cheese to have received this award.

Blind tests

The ITQI is an independent organisation made up of chefs, sommeliers and drink experts and assesses high quality foods and beverages. To this end, the culinary panel of specialists carries out blind tests. In addition to taste, the scent and the structure of the cheeses is also examined. With an average score of nine, Old Amsterdam almost achieved the maximum score and will therefore now be receiving the exclusive Superior Taste Award. The panel has judged that Old Amsterdam is ‘exceptional’ and awarded it the highest possible three stars. “We are very proud to be the only cheese maker to have been awarded this prestigious award. Our customers and the experts alike value the unique taste of Old Amsterdam”, says managing director Cor Lustig, of Westland Kaasspecialiteiten. “The myriad quality controls and high standards our cheese is subject to result in a perfect taste.”

More awards

The Superior Taste Award is not the only international prize that this successful Dutch cheese has won so far. Old Amsterdam has also already won the international Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft quality contest eight times, it received various distinctions during the annual Nantwich Cheese Show – which counts 2,250 candidates from 24 different countries and is the largest cheese test in the world – and received the golden slice during the World Cheese Awards.
