Spanish taste award for Old Amsterdam

Old Amsterdam has won an important taste prize in Spain. The fastest growing cheese brand in the Netherlands has been declared Sabor del Año 2010 (Taste of the Year 2010).

This prestigious award is presented each year to foods with an exceptional taste. The assessment comes from consumers themselves. They test various products on, for example, taste, quality, structure and aroma. Of all the assessed cheeses, Old Amsterdam achieved a convincing 8.8 (on a scale of 1-10), the highest score. “We are very proud of this fine result,” says general director Cor Lustig of Westland Kaasspecialiteiten. “It is an assessment given by consumers and that makes this award very special. It shows that our frequent quality controls and the high demands we set on our cheese lead to a perfect taste.”

It is not the first time that Old Amsterdam wins a prize. Earlier this year, the cheese brand received the Superior Taste Award, an international quality prize presented by the International Taste & Quality Institute (ITQI). The ITQI is an independent organisation made up of chefs, sommeliers and drink experts and assesses high quality foods and beverages. To this end, the culinary panel of specialists carries out blind tests. In addition to taste, the scent and the structure of the cheeses is also examined. With an average score of nine, Old Amsterdam almost achieved the maximum score and therefore received the exclusive Superior Taste Award.
