Old Amsterdam Receives Superior Taste Award for Second Year
On April 23rd, Old Amsterdam, Dutch-style Gouda, received the prestigious Superior Taste Award in Brussels. This international quality award is issued by the International Taste & Quality Institute (ITQI) and considered the Michelin star of the food & beverage industry. Old Amsterdam was also honored last year.
Old Amsterdam received a maximum score of three stars for two years running and judged exceptional in its category. “We appreciate that ITQI’s panel of experts value the unique taste of Old Amsterdam,” said Cor Lustig, CEO of Westland. “This year we even managed to improve on every mark compared with last year and that’s something we’re very proud of.”
Old Amsterdam has a unique smooth consistency and rich and robust taste, sparked with fine ripening crystals and easy sliceable. Old Amsterdam is prepared using a family-owned starter culture and unique ripening process, created by the Dutch Westland family. Master cheese makers constantly monitor the taste and quality, releasing each batch of cheese only when reaching the perfect taste and texture.
The Competition
International Taste & Quality Instituteis an independent organization comprised of recognized chefs, sommeliers and taste experts who assess the quality of specialty foods and beverages from around the world on a strictly blind basis, without packaging or identification of any kind. Products are graded with a specific sensory analysis that includes hedonic pleasure, first impression, smell, texture, flavor and after taste.
Multi-Award Winner
In addition to this year’s Superior Taste Award, Old Amsterdam has received:
· “Best of Class” gold medal at 2010 Wisconsin World Championship Cheese Contest
· Classified in Spain as Sabor del Año, which translates to “The Taste of 2010”
· Received nine awards at the international Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft quality contest
· Special distinctions at the annual Nantwich Cheese Show
· Awarded the “Golden Slice” at the World Cheese Awards.
